Day Three - Deep Clean
Ezekiel 36: 24-27 (TNIV) - "For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws."
Just the other day, I went to Target to pick up a few cleaning products and I was baffled by which product I should purchase. There was a myriad of labels claiming, "Extra Strength" or "Extra Cleaning Power." I stood there in the aisle thinking to myself, "surely, the right cleaning product would allow me to never clean again." But we all know that's not true. I concluded that no matter how much a product promises a deep clean, there just isn't any cleaning product out there that will go beyond the surface of the counter or the bathtub to prevent it from getting dirty again. In the Old Testament, Ezekiel talks about the most powerful cleaning agent there is. God promises to cleanse His people by giving them a new heart to follow Him by putting His Spirit within them to transform them. By transforming their hearts, He alters the once hardened heart of stone into a soft heart of flesh. He offers a fresh start, a new beginning to everyone who believes in His promise, no matter what they were like before.
Responding to the Transmitted Message: This renewal and cleansing from the Lord is real, deep and lasting. God invites us today to receive His promise to be cleansed and to be renewed by the Spirit. Let's approach God by surrendering our thoughts and our agendas and asking Him to wash us clean and to send us the Spirit to transform us from the inside out.
