Day One - The Light at the end of the tunnel
Isaiah 32:9-20 (TNIV) - "You women who are so complacent, rise up and listen to me; you daughters who feel secure, hear what I have to say! In little more than a year you who feel secure will tremble; the grape harvest will fail, and the harvest of fruit will not come. Tremble, you complacent women; shudder, you daughters who feel secure! Strip off your clothes, put sackcloth around your waists. Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vines and for the land of my people, a land overgrown with thorns and briers-yes, mourn for all houses of merriment and for this city of revelry.
The fortress will be abandoned, the noisy city deserted; citadel and watchtower will become a wasteland forever, the delight of donkeys, a pasture for flocks, till the Spirit is poured on us from on high, and the desert becomes a fertile field, and the fertile field seems like a forest.
The LORD's justice will dwell in the desert, his righteousness live in the fertile field. The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest. Though hail flattens the forest and the city is leveled completely, how blessed you will be, sowing your seed by every stream, and letting your cattle and donkeys range free."
These days, it's so hard to get through a day without hearing the latest news about the presidential election or how bad the economy is doing or how many people are getting laid off this week. Now millions of people are waking up each morning wondering if they will have a job at the end of the day or if they can retire as planned or even if their kids can go to college next year. Needless to say, each day feels like a downward spiral of hopelessness. It's no wonder everyone is talking about the presidential elections now more than ever. Who will save the United States of America? Will it be Obama or McCain?
In either scenario, we know all our global, national or even our personal problems won't be solved completely. Many people are hopeful the next leader will turn things around, but there is still much doubt on who will really keep his promise. Unlike the next president, there is someone who has the ultimate solution and has a promise that will not fail. In Isaiah, God promises to pour out His love by sending the Spirit to everyone who looks to Him. Only God has the power to change man's condition here on earth. His Spirit allows us to experience a peace and abundance like never before. Now that's good news!
Responding to the Transmitted Message: Just like the Israelites, we all have experienced some difficult times in our own lives, perhaps even today. Through today's Word, we can rest assure that when God enters the picture, things only get better. Let's pray and ask God to send His Spirit over our lives today. Let's receive the outpouring of His love and put our hope in Him who saves us.
