Day Five - Abba Father
Mark 14:32-36 - "They went to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and Jesus said, "Sit here while I go and pray." He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he became deeply troubled and distressed. He told them, "My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me." He went on a little farther and fell to the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting him might pass him by. "Abba, Father," he cried out, "everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine."
Romans 8:15-1 - "So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God's Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, "Abba, Father." For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God's children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God's glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering."
In a society where we try so hard to not suffer or face difficulties but rather live in luxury and the posh life, it is a sharp contrast to read that Jesus suffered so much. And not because of a mistake or life circumstance, but He suffered for us - so that we may know who we are (God's children). And along with Jesus, we can call God, "Abba, Father."
Have you ever experienced this Abba Father cry? Has your spirit longingly called out to God? It is a deep spiritual cry knowing how much we need Him, how much this world needs Him.
Responding to the Transmitted Message: Let's pray that God will take us to the place where our hearts and our lives cry out to Him. It is not by our strength or will, but by the Spirit who cries "Abba, Father!" - enabling us to live for Him and be like Him. Let's pray that we will experience the intimacy of this call - where from the depth of our soul, we call out to God. He will meet us. He will answer us.
