Day One - I'm a Masterpiece?

Ephesians 2:8-10 (NLT) - "God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago."

What would we usually deem as a masterpiece -- maybe a famous work of art or a brilliant musical composition? In either case, there is a creative work that takes place to produce a masterpiece.

In this Ephesians passage, we are called God's masterpiece. Just as a painting cannot take credit for it's own beauty, but relies upon the skill of the creator for every perfect stroke, so we also do not lay claim to the saving work of God in our lives. God's picky love for us is a gift to us. God's salvation is given to us not based on any good thing we have done. And let's be real, could we ever possibly do enough good things in our lifetime to earn salvation? That is why we are God's masterpiece. He has full claim over our lives to hold us up before the eyes of all and say, "Look at my creation."

Responding to the Transmitted Message: What joy to know today that we are God's masterpiece! And let's ask today, "More Lord, more of your creating work in me." The passage says God created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago. Today let's do the good things God planned for us, not because we are earning our salvation, but because we are already saved.
