Day One - That's How Much I Love You!
Isaiah 43:1-7 (MSG) - "But now, this is what the LORD says - he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel:
"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead. Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give nations in exchange for you, and peoples in exchange for your life.
Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' and to the south, 'Do not hold them back.' Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth - everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made."
"I love you this much," says the child as she demonstrates her love with arms open wide. From an early age, there is something in us which grasps that for love to be true love, there must be an expression of that love - hands and feet, life put into action, action which demonstrates that love. God's inescapable love for His people means that His love was demonstrated, and that His love continues to be demonstrated to His people:
I paid a huge price for you:
all of Egypt, with rich Cush and Seba thrown in!
That's how much you mean to me!
That's how much I love you!
I'd sell off the whole world to get you back,
trade the creation just for you. (Is. 43:3-4 - Message Translation)
That is how much God loves us! God's inescapable love for us is not without purpose. The purpose of His love is this - that He wants us back. He wants back every last one who was made to know Him, love Him, and bring glory to His name. Our response to this love is to come back to the One who has loved us like no other. Our response to this love is to not be afraid. Our response to this love is to trust in Him and walk with Him as He continues to demonstrate His love for us and all of His people.
Responding to the Transmitted Message: As we read through Isaiah 43, let's thank God for the love which is demonstrated in what He has done for us to bring us to Himself. Ask God to help you to come back to Him, to trust Him, and to walk with Him in His inescapable love. Finally, let's thank God for His heart that wants all of His sons and daughters to come back to Him. Ask Him to help you, together with His church, to be a part of seeing His sons and daughters come home to Him.
